Catarina Cotton Napkin - Maroon

Catarina Cotton Napkin - Maroon

Our Catarina Napkins were named in honour of the beautiful Maya village of Santa Catarina Palopó, on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Soft and lightweight, each 100% cotton napkin is cut from a hand dyed, handwoven vintage corte.

What is a corte?
Anyone visiting the Guatemalan highlands can delight in seeing the beautiful traje indigena (traditional Maya clothing). Some basic elements of the traditional dress are the tocoyal (head covering), huipil (blouse), corte (skirt), and paz (belt). The styles, patterns and colours used by each village are unique and each garment is the creation of its weaver. The Maya women of the highlands proudly wear huipilies and cortes everyday and these colourful creations are still made by hand using centuries old weaving techniques.
