What is a corte?
Anyone visiting the Guatemalan highlands can delight in seeing the beautiful traje indigena (traditional Maya clothing). Some basic elements of the traditional dress are the tocoyal (head covering), huipil (blouse), corte (skirt), and paz (belt). The styles, patterns and colours used by each village are unique and each garment is the creation of its weaver. The Maya women of the highlands proudly wear huipilies and cortes everyday and these colourful creations are still made by hand using centuries old weaving techniques.

Each corte has been hand-crafted by Maya artisans using centuries old weaving techniques. Due to the delicate vintage nature of this item, subtle distressing is to be expected and small imperfections only add to it’s uniqueness and beauty 💕
